Yes, you read that title right, everyone.  The Wii U support page has confirmed that the Nintendo Network accounts can only be used on the console on which they were created.  This means that you cannot transfer data to a friend's console or a new Wii U should your current one break.  


...That being said, the statement did note that in the future the accounts may be transferable to other Nintendo devices and PCs.  Let's hope this does happen.

I hope this Nintendo Network ID not only allows transfering between Wii U's, but connecting between 3DS as well. Hopefully lots of interaction, so that those of us with Wii U's (yet) can still utilize some features like Miiverse and whatnot.


Would be cool.

From what I've heard, Miyamoto has stated that Nintendo has interest in exploring connectivity between the Wii U and the 3DS, but it's a low priority.  I agree, though, that I hope they do explore the options.
